Math Department's Annual Pi Day Celebration - 2016
The Math Department once again broke out pen, paper, guitar and tambourine to sing "Find, Find, the value of Pi" to the tune of "American Pie" on Pi Day, 3/14/16. Joined by many hungry and curious student onlookers, who joined their teachers in singing the chorus in the 5th-floor hallway outside the Math Lab, the Math Department once again hosted its annual celebration of 3.14159... or Pi, the infinite irrational number used to describe the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter.
Sung by math teachers David Harvey, Daniel Cohen, Michael Sturm, Felicia Metz and Math Department Chair, Lisa Borenstein on tambourine, the song's witty rhymes captured the mysteries and challenges of Pi. The department also made up Pi Day T-Shirts, which they distributed to Math Club members.
After the last note had been sung, the crowd turned its attention to the many types of "pie" sliced and served by math teachers David Gomprecht, Jasmine Bensky, Shelley Goldfarb, and Guy Manuel.
