For the third consecutive year, TRACK AND FIELD won the PSAA Championship Meet. The senior class stood out at the meet, leaving their mark on their final PSAA Championship with a particularly impressive performance. On the girls’ team, Charlotte Watts (‘16) placed first in both the 800 and 3000 meter races while Tyler Love (‘16) placed second in the 100 meter hurdles and the 400 meter races. Olivia Tanzman (‘16) and Grace Welle (‘16) went 1-3 in the shot put. Notably, Welle broke a personal record by reaching 31 feet on one of her tosses. On the boys’ side, Andrew Gamzon (‘16) and Jake Weiss (‘16) led the sprint medley team to a first place finish. Captain Dylan Fine (‘16) won gold medals in the 800, 1600, and 3200 meter races, earning himself MVP Honors of the meet for the second year in a row. Riding off of its spectacular successes at this meet, next week the team will compete in the Ivy League and NYSAIS Championships.
GIRLS LACROSSE doubled its season wins this week by picking up wins in both in and out of league play. On Wednesday, the team beat Chapin 16-9, a communal effort highlighted by unselfish passing, smart shooting, and particularly good midfield transition play. On Friday, the Tigers–ranked sixth in the Ivy Prep league– capped off the week with an upset win against Poly Prep, ranked fourth in the league. Carmen Lawrence (‘17) dominated play with five goals to propel Dalton to a 12-9 win.
GOLF played against four different schools this week at three different courses. Although ultimately unable to pick up a win, the team gained valuable experience which it hopes it can use to win a match in the remaining weeks of the season.
On Friday, BOYS LACROSSE mounted an attack against Poly Prep but was unable to get the win, losing 6-10.
Although JV TENNIS fell to Poly Prep on Friday, Jason Friedman (‘18) extended his winning streak at the one spot to two wins, beating his opponent 8-3.
With multiple games rescheduled and practices canceled due to rain, VARSITY BASEBALL still managed to have a successful week, going 1-1. On Thursday, the team lost to league leader Poly Prep 10-1. But in a rescheduled Saturday morning matchup vs. the Collegiate Dutchmen, the Tigers prevailed 2-1, thanks to a brilliant performance from starting pitcher Julian Schlesinger (’18), who pitched six innings. Dalton got its first run on a single from Cortland Perry (’16) which drove in Miles Peponis (‘18), and its second run on a wild pitch which allowed Spencer Kersh (’16) to advance from third base to home.
VARSITY TENNIS went 1-1 this week, beating Friends on Monday and losing to Trinity, who is undefeated in the league, on Wednesday. The week was highlighted by another stellar performance by Jamie Konigsberg (‘16), who clinched the victory over Friends for the Tigers by beating his opponent in a tiebreaker match. Konigsberg extends his singles winning streak to two, both of his latest victories being secured in tiebreakers.
Both of SOFTBALL’s games this week were canceled. On Wednesday, the team looks forward to facing Fieldston–ranked one place ahead of Dalton in the league at third–after
losing to the team earlier this season.
