First Graders Learn About Argentina and Dance the Tango
First graders have begun a cultural unit about the beautiful South American country of Argentina in Spanish class. They are learning about typical food, music, dances, as well as some famous people from Argentina. During dance theater, the students are learning how to dance the Tango, a famous dance from Argentina.
After viewing short video clips of tango dancing, students listened to traditional tango music to identify the instruments. They learned that Tango is the "art of beautiful walking." They tried their best to maintain a stiff upper body, leading with their chest, and pointing their toes as they walked.
In a fun neighborhood exchange, First Grade students from Sacred Heart visited Dalton to learn The Tango with House 36. The following week, House 36 traveled to Sacred Heart to watch their version of "Where the Wild Things Are."
