Fencing Master Jared Kirby Teaches Third Graders About The Art of the Sword
Offense and defense come together to form the word FENCING. Third graders worked with fight master and historical weapons specialist Jared Kirby exploring sword handling and stage combat.
After excavating various weaponry in their archeological digs, the students learned about the evolution and the practical real-life usage of the weapons. Jared and Justin demonstrated stage combat with metal replicas and then walked the students through "en garde", offensive and defensive maneuvers, and a final salute, emphasizing mutual respect.
