From Halfway Around The World - Ms Han Shares Her Experience

Third grade students in House 37 are studying identity, culture and heritage. They were interested in learning about "First Generation" immigrants who came to the United States. Why did they leave their country? How was life different? Did they make friends? Have they returned to the country they immigrated from? Will they continue with the traditions of their born heritage?
First Grade teacher Karen Han helped to answer many of their questions. She immigrated from South Korea when she was 10 years old. She spoke to the third graders about life in South Korea, why her mom decided to leave, and her life in the United States. She shared what life was like when she first arrived in New York and what it was like when she returned at the age of 27 to the place she was born and reunited with family. Karen will teach her own children about Korean heritage and traditions.
