Argentine Teacher Orients 5th Grade Spanish Students

As a culminating activity for our unit about Argentina, Spanish teacher Maria Teresa Madinaveitia, who is originally from Buenos Aires, visited our fifth grade class.

She started her presentation by discussing the geography of the country, and its location on the map.  Then she shared some authentic cultural objects.

Students learned how mate a drink is prepared, explored different sizes and types of mate and bombillas, and talked about its use daily, and during special celebrations.

In addition, Sra. Madinaveitia shared information about a variety of traditional clothing, such as the poncho.  Students learned about its material and decorations, and the reasons why gauchos wear these garments during the winter.  At the end of the presentation, some students volunteered to dance the tango with her!  It was a fascinating learning experience for all!
