Boys Varsity Lacrosse Defeats Masters
By Elie Farah

On Thursday, April 13, the Boys Varsity Lacrosse team defeated The Masters School in a decisive 18-10 victory to pick up its first win of the regular season.

Dalton started scoring early in the game and did not let up. The Tigers scored four goals in the first quarter and another four in the second. After gaining an 8-3 lead in the first half, Dalton came out even stronger in the third quarter, gaining a ten point lead. Masters answered with seven more goals of its own but was overall unable to chip away at Dalton’s lead.

Though a non-league game, the victory against Masters is Dalton’s first win since Spring Training at Disney in Orlando, Florida, where Dalton went 1-1 in play.

Evan Wolpert '20 and Nick Lipsher '19 scored seven and six goals, respectively. James Woods '17 and co-captain Harrison Mack '17 each had two goals and several assists.

Co-captain Dylan Whang '17 reflected on what the team did well in the game: “We did a great job moving the ball on offense and creating scoring opportunities. Our defense was sound as well.” He mentioned areas where there is still room for improvement: “We had a difficult time maintaining that [high-intensity] level of play through all four quarters, something we will need to work on as the season goes on.” But, he said, “as a whole we feel very confident in our ability to be a force within the league.”

With more games like this one, the team is poised to take home many more wins this season.

JV Baseball Routs Collegiate
By James Kuntz and Sean Ryan

JV Baseball team routed Collegiate in an 11-0 victory on Thursday, April 13, featuring stellar performances at the mound, on the plate, and in the field by the Tigers.

Dalton’s pitchers baffled Collegiate players, only conceding one hit throughout all five innings. Oliver Schlesinger '20 pitched the majority of the game, while Parker Brownell '20 entered the game to get the final out.

On the offensive end, Dalton capitalized with runners on base. Paul Sobel '19 led the offensive charge for Dalton with 3 hits, 1 RBI, and 3 runs. Josh Kaufman '20 also had a strong game with two hits and two RBIs. Dalton’s offensive performance was a clear group effort, with every Tiger reaching base during the game.

Dalton played a flawless defensive game, committing zero errors. Centerfielder Reddy Lee '19 anchored the outfield, catching 3 fly balls, while veteran second baseman Nic Salem '18 held down the infield with several smooth plays. Catcher Jake Ehrenkranz '20 had an excellent performance, allowing no passed balls.

The team looks to build upon this win next week, when it faces Trevor Day on Monday, Fieldston on Wednesday, and Riverdale on Friday.
