UNABLE TO OVERCOME HORACE MANN, GIRLS SOCCER REMAINS NO. 2 IN LEAGUE
By BO PEPONIS
On Wednesday, Girls Varsity Soccer lost a heartbreaking game to Horace Mann, 1-0, in the second overtime period. In recent memory, Horace Mann has consistently been the Tigers’ hardest opponent within the Ivy Preparatory League; this year has been no exception.
The Tigers controlled the pace of the game and attempted many shots at net led by the attack of co-captain Rain Condie ‘18 and Kara Siegel ‘19. Leyla Kamshad ‘19 played a brilliant game in the net for the Tigers, stopping one-on-one opportunities Horace Mann players had throughout the game.
After the game remained tied at the end of regulation, Dalton and Horace Mann entered overtime, which includes two five minute halves. With under a minute left in overtime, a Horace Mann forward charged down the field wide left, launching a cross to her fellow attacker positioned on the six yard line who scored the game winning goal.
Despite the loss, the Tigers remain in the hunt for the Ivy Prepatory League Championship with a 7-3 record in league play. According to Kamshad, “the loss will motivate us going into States [playoffs] because we want to show everyone that we can be one of the best teams three years in a row.” As Dalton plays its last few games of the regular season next week, the team hopes for a successful postseason run.
