More than half of the members of the Cross Country team set personal records at the Collegiate Invitational on Friday, October 20.

In the Boys Varsity 2.5 mile race, co-captain Peter Gardner (‘18) set a personal record with an outstanding 14:39, finishing in 18th place in the race. Nic Salem (‘18) and co-captain Oliver Effron (‘18) both recorded their best times of the season, with a 15:16 and 15:22, respectively. Jonah Ryan (‘18), too, set a personal record, running a 16:14. And for the first time this season, co-captain Andrew Bastone (‘18) finished in under 16 minutes.

In the ninth grade girls 1.5 mile race, Tori DaCosta (‘21) finished in 13:51, and Caroline Press (‘21) finished in 14:29, both setting personal records.

In the ninth grade boys 1.5 mile race, Daniel Simmons (‘21) and Dylan Lee (‘21) both finished in the top ten, with times of 9:30 and 9:45, respectively.

In the Girls Varsity 2.5 mile race, Toni DaCosta (‘20) finished in eighth place with a time of 17:02, adding to a list of her impressive feats this season, such as a third-place finish at the Mayor’s Cup in October. In Friday’s race, co-captain Lily Steinman (‘18) was the second Dalton runner to cross the finish line with a time of 18:55.

Bastone said of the impressive performances, “It was great to see [people] who’ve been on the team since freshman year set personal records. Kudos to them for all of their hard work.”
