First Program and High School Students Farm Together at Hilltop Hanover
Students in House 32 (led by Monica Margolis Morton) and World History 11: Nature/ Technology/Power (led by Kevin Slick) ventured to Hilltop Hanover Farm in Yorktown Heights Both groups toured the farm in order to gain an understanding of the means and methods behind sustainable organic farming. The tours illustrated the dynamic nature between food production and consumption and illustrated the role of livestock, bees, watershed protection, forests, and compost and fertilizer in the maintenance of a small-scale organic farm. The two groups also partnered in the harvesting of "lunchbox" peppers and enjoyed time in the fields together.
