Parents Follow-up on Community and Belonging with Jim Best

Head of School Jim Best and Dalton's Community Life & Diversity Committee (CL&D) joined current parents to discuss the ways Dalton is encouraging inclusion and exploring opportunities for fostering a deeper sense of belonging among all community members. The gathering provided a continuation of Dalton's recent conference, The Dalton Citizen: Community & Belonging.
In his opening remarks, Jim Best spoke about the societal challenges that students, parents, and faculty face today. He remarked that in an increasingly divisive climate, people have seemingly forgotten how to talk with one another. This is why the school continues to emphasize the importance of The Dalton Citizen--the ideal that each member of the Dalton community engages others with character, kindness, inclusivity, and empathy.

After his opening remarks, attendees split into small groups to identify actionable ways that parents, teachers, and the greater Dalton community could use to maintain an ongoing sense of belonging and ways to foster open dialogue.

The CL&D Committee provides an opportunity for all parents at Dalton to discuss topics that impact the school community and promote a more equitable learning environment at Dalton. This committee organizes panel discussions, forums, and parent talks that value the variety of differences within the Dalton community.
