Last Friday, Grade 7 and 8 students embarked on Dalton’s annual Middle School Service Day that began in Martin Theater as students listened to service leaders from the High School share their stories about what inspires them to serve and how to bring one’s passions to acts of service. In addition to talking about their own experiences, HS students also gave practical advice on how to approach Service Day and how to stay involved beyond the day itself.
After the assembly, students spent the remainder of the morning with their Houses to work on projects with participating organizations including Isaac Center, New York Common Pantry, the Carter Burden Center, Afya, Daniel’s Music Foundation, ABC (Association to Benefit Children), Heart to Heart, Room to Grow, as well as Dalton’s Theater and Dance departments. After some lunch and play time at our PE Center, House Advisors, and students dedicated over an hour to guided reflection on their collective experiences. The day ended with a final Assembly in which Grade 7 and 8 representatives summarized their work and key takeaways to Grades 4, 5, and 6 to help them prepare for Service Day in the future.
We would like to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of our students, faculty, administration, parents, Food Services, Building Services, Security, and Athletics departments for making this day possible, as well as a very special thanks to Amanda Keats for organizing the day.
