Fourth Grade Spanish Students Study The Galapagos Using Puppets and Learn About Helping the Environment
In their study of The Galapagos, fourth graders are focusing on learning about how to help the environment. Through the use of puppets, teachers introduced students to animals in the Galapagos and the problems that these animals are encountering due to the overuse of plastic. They learned how plastic through ingestion or entanglement are impacting many species around the world.
Fourth-grade students are focusing on a study of The Galapagos. As part of this unit, students learned about ways to help the environment; teachers using puppets introduced students to animals in the Galapagos and the problems that these animals are encountering due to the overuse of plastic — including ingestion or entanglement.
A Sea Turtle puppet named Milagros (i.e., miracle) visited and taught the kids about her sea turtle family and how difficult it has become for them to survive in the wild. Milagros explained how plastic products impact sea life.
Milagros had a big impact on the students. When they noticed that Milagros had a piece of plastic wrapped around her neck, they immediately wanted to help her. The most important takeaway for the 4th grade students is to help the planet by reducing the use of plastic.
