From Halloween Fun to Makerspace Build Sessions, Students Participate in On Campus Activities
There were plenty of fang-tastic opportunities this week for students to celebrate the Halloween spirit and a range of other in-person activities.
At Dalton’s Physical Education Center, 6th graders gathered for a spooky Dodgeball Night while 4th graders enjoyed a special Halloween-themed PlayLab and socially distanced e x o r c i s e. 5th graders also joined in on the fun on Friday for a Halloween party that included pumpkin decorating. Meanwhile, the Dalton Library hosted some dreadfully delightful Halloween fun for a virtual First Program Halloween Story Hour and a “Halloween Trick or Read” for middle and high school students.
Last week, students continued to utilize our socially distanced co-working spaces as 133 students gathered at 89th Street to study and collaborate. At 91st Street, 115 students were on campus for supervision and at 89th Street, 50 participated in on campus supervision. We were also pleased to see students on campus for enrichment events, including MS theater workshops and HS makerspace build sessions.
Next week, we’re increasing our capacity at 89th Street to 40 students per day in the co-working space and 15 students per day in the Makerspace. High school students can sign up for one day per week slots and can see who else signed up so that they can choose to work with classmates/friends. 5th-8th grade students will begin Robotics and Maker classes remotely with in-person sessions beginning the following week.
HS Psychologist Dr. Ramchandani will be running in-person social-emotional groups to provide a place in which high schoolers are safely able to process and manage feelings of uncertainty and social isolation during the Covid-19 pandemic. Groups will run three days a week along with a remote option. Students that are interested in joining should contact Dr. Ramchandani (tramchandani@dalton.org).
