Middle and High School Display Their Artistry

Middle and high school students display their artistic talents through a range of inventive and inspiring projects in their digitalDalton art projects.
7th graders in Ms. Stavitsky’s Painting, College & Assembly course have used home materials to create self-portrait collages inspired by Artist Deborah Roberts.

8th graders in Mr. Rubin’s Art course considered the history and visual language of international and domestic currency. After investigating questions about how value is assigned, students used Adobe Photoshop software and iterative design thinking to create their own banknotes based on their own theme.

High Schoolers in Ms. Zeder’s Watercolor course are creating new pieces to hone their color mixing and brush control skills to preserve the white areas of the paper.

High Schoolers in Ms. Hanauer’s Book Arts course designed and carved geometric stamps to generate patterned book covers. Students experimented with shape, color, repetition, and variety as they printed their book covers, while also learning to sew a pamphlet binding with a printed cover.

High Schoolers in Ms. Zexter’s Photo I course, created digitally altered photograms inspired by the experimental rayographs of Man Ray and the botanical cyanotypes of Anna Atkins. Using their cameras or cell phones, each student took pictures of objects found at home and altered the images in Photoshop to create their photogram—changing the original composition by building layers and adding colors.
