Third Annual HeroCon Event Features Full Lineup of Expert Presenters
Last month, Dalton hosted its third annual HeroCon event, which focuses on the intersection of comics and popular media with social justice and activism.
The event featured presenters from diverse backgrounds and experiences whose work showcases the everyday heroism of people, both in their communities and in their personal lives.
We were delighted to welcome HeroCon 2021 Presenters:
Nate Powell cartoonist for the March trilogy
Laurie Halse Anderson, author of Wonder Woman: Tempest Tossed
Nidhi Chanan, author and cartoonist of Pashmina
Japanese manga artist Misako Rocks!
Kyle Lukoff, author of the picture book When Aidan Became a Brother
Kwame Mbalia, author of the Tristan Strong series
Lisa Fipps, author of the verse novel Starfish
A panel of cosplayers discussing identity, social activism, and cosplay
Attendees engaged in Q&A sessions throughout the day and participated in drawing and writing exercises.
Two signature moments from the event included wisdom from Cartoonist Nate Powell who told students, "All you need to communicate is something to draw with, something to draw on, and an idea!" and Author Halse Anderson, who urged everyone to, "Learn from the past. Think of the future."
