In November, Dalton's debaters finished in first place! And second, and third, and fourth, and beyond.
To begin a fantastic month, the middle school team competed in their first tournament of the year. Liam Gaspar '26, Campbell Langdon '26, and Zeran Li '26 were the second place team overall. Shreya Ranjan '26, Sam Kaplan '26, and Annika Maduraperuma '26 were the first place team overall and the only team with a perfect undefeated record!
Lylah Patel '26 was the 11th speaker overall, Annika Maduraperuma was 10th, Austin Gordon '26 was 9th, Shreya Ranjan was 7th, Sam Worthington '26 was 6th, Liam Gaspar was 4th, Zeran Li was 3rd, and Campbell Langdon was the top speaker at the entire tournament!
The following weekend, the Public Forum debate team competed at the Scarsdale Invitational, where older and younger debaters worked together to hone their skills. Annika Jha '24 and Arav Mehta '25 even advanced to the top 16 in Varsity, continuing the trend of excellent performances by our 9th and 10th graders.
Then, from November 20-22, our high school students attended the Glenbrooks tournament, among the hardest in the country, and succeeded spectacularly. In the novice division, Arav Mehta and Anysa Bickici '25 advanced to the quarterfinal, and Aminata Diaollo '25 and Nilomi Weerakkody ‘25 made it all the way to the final round! In addition, Ollie Feder '25 was 9th speaker overall, Anysa was 5th, and Aminata and Nilomi were tied for second!
Overall, 35 students debated in November, collectively earning a total of 47 victories! It was a big month, and December promises to be just as good: the Public Forum team will continue their incredible season at Princeton and Ridge High School, debating the merits of cryptocurrency regulation. The middle school team will attend their second tournament and debate whether college should be free, whether art should be publicly funded, and whether we should regret the American revolution.
