Third Graders Embark on Indigenous Peoples Research Project
What did early Indigenous Peoples eat? How did they make clothes? What types of shelters or homes did they make? These are just some of the questions that third graders in Barton and Harriss Houses are seeking to answer.
In collaboration with the First Program Library, students are embarking upon a research project using a combination of print books and digital databases to learn about how Indigenous Peoples of North America lived before European colonization.
Each student will focus on one region in these individual research projects, read multiple texts, and take thoughtful notes related to their chosen subtopics. Finally, they will synthesize their notes and work with peers to create a final presentation to share with the class. In this way, students will uncover how the geography of each region across the North American continent greatly shaped the rich culture of Indigenous Peoples.
Check back later in the semester for the final presentations!
