Latin Classes Celebrate Saturnalia in Teaching Kitchen

Latin students in Grades 5-12 celebrated the Roman festival Saturnalia with songs, food, and drink before Winter Break.
Saturnalia, held in honor of the god Saturn, was a week-long ancient Roman festival in December where everyone gathered to eat, sing, and play games.

In preparation for their celebration, the students watched a video in Latin about the history of Saturnalia and then sang "Saturnalia" songs (Latin versions of "Jingle Bells" and "Deck the Halls”).

Finally, it was time to celebrate! The class ventured up to the 14th Floor Teaching Kitchen, where they made mulled "wine" and ate (a much more palatable) chocolate version of the Roman rodent delicacy dormice. The Latin students enjoyed the class so much that they left with 2,000-year-old recipes to try at home.

Prosit! or cheers! to all!
