Exploring Representations of the Private Sphere at El Museo Del Barrio
Students in the history electives "From Salons to Social Media: A History of the Public Sphere" led by HS History Teacher Sarah Dunitz and "A Study of Color: History/Theory/ Meaning" led by HS History Teacher Kevin Slick joined forces for a guided tour of DOMESTICANX at El Museo del Barrio before spring break.
The museum educator/working artist leading the tour offered critical insight (and playful provocation and wit) in an effort to engage students around the prevalent themes of the exhibition whose participating LatinX/ Caribbean artists sought to "address the private sphere through works related to healing, spirituality, decoration, and the home." As a result, the conversation was fruitful, nuanced, and informed.
