Public Theater Representatives Visit 7th Graders to Discuss "A Raisin in the Sun"
Representatives from New York's Public Theater – Artistic Producer Alverneq Lindsay and Chief Marketing Officer Tom McCann recently visited Dalton to discuss their production of A Raisin in the Sun with 7th grade students. The assembly provided the students with an opportunity to engage with theater professionals and to learn more about the professional production of the play. To prepare for the visit, the students conducted research on various historical topics and crafted photo essays to foreground their reading.
The students also wrote essays on the play and finished the Assignment by watching the 1961 film version. During the visit, Lindsay and McCann spoke about their experiences in the theater community and answered questions from the students. The discussion also touched on the themes of the play, including racial discrimination, poverty, and the pursuit of the American Dream. Overall, the visit provided the students with a valuable opportunity to engage with the theater community and gain a deeper understanding of the play and its historical context.
