Playwright Peter Parnell Partners with 7th and 8th Grade Students on an Adaptation Project
The Middle School recently welcomed playwright Peter Parnell P’27 to work with 7th and 8th grade students on a playwriting project. Peter, who has experience in both original and adapted works for the stage and television, guided the students through an adaptation project, encouraging them to choose familiar stories and take a unique perspective on them.
MS Teacher Rory Boyd offered this professional writers' workshop experience to help students develop their skills, with guidance from Peter. The project was a great success with writers bringing their own perspectives to a familiar story that they know or love. In this workshop-style class, students read aloud scenes that they’d written for feedback. This collaborative experience allowed students to hone their playwriting skills using the same process as professional writers.
