Two Dalton Students Complete the 2023 Weill Cornell Medicine Clinical and Research Summer Internship Program

This summer, High School students Annika J. '24 and Jai K. '24 participated in the 2023 Weill Cornell Medicine Clinical and Research Summer Internship program. As part of the program, the students were paired with faculty mentors and required to deliver a final presentation on their research topic. Annika’s topic was "The Emergency Department to Online: A Review of Adult Virtual Urgent Care Follow-up Appointments" and Jai’s presentation was on "What Substances Do People Talk About When They Discuss Opioids." Their internship supervisor, Dr. Rahul Sharma, described their quality of work as “exemplary,” noting that they were selected from a highly competitive pool of applicants.
Participants in the program attend formal lectures on research study design, medical humanities, innovation in healthcare, healthcare informatics, quality and patient safety, and diversity in medicine. Students participate in weekly journal clubs, discussing topics, such as mentorship, innovation, physician wellness, and change management. Additionally, students gain in-person clinical experience while shadowing emergency medicine faculty members in the emergency room and via our telemedicine platform.
