History Capstone Seniors Present Works-In-Progress
Earlier this month, Seniors enrolled in the History Capstone course presented their works-in-process to the broader community including students, faculty, administrators, and members of their families. Dr. Shira Kohn, Capstone teacher, introduced each of the speakers and facilitated the Question & Answer session that followed each presentation. Speakers and topics included:
Haeon Lee, "San Juan Hill: 'Culture City' Before Lincoln Center"
Samuel Wiedman, "Rattlesnakes of the Atlantic:' The Media Response to the Greer Incident"
Tali Kantor Lieber, "Sanctioning the Schoolhouse: The Role of the Citizens' Council in the Establishment of Segregation Academies"
The History Capstone is a Senior elective course in High School designed to introduce students with a demonstrated interest in History to the research methods and writing skills most utilized in the discipline. In addition to pursuing an original project of their own choosing, students determine the final format for the submission of their project, which ranges from a formal research paper to a podcast or Google site presentation. Of this year's Capstone students, Dr. Kohn said, "I could not be prouder of the innovative research and creativity these three students have demonstrated week after week. Their presentations were a great example of what a Dalton education is."
