History Faculty Member Contributes to Symposium on American Jewish History
Shira Kohn, HS History faculty member, President of the Faculty Association and Dalton parent (‘32), provided tributes for an online symposium dedicated to Hasia R. Diner, a prominent historian of American Jewish History. Hasia’s groundbreaking research and mentorship trained a new generation of scholars to chronicle the lives of ordinary Jews who called America home during the 19th and 20th centuries. Shira was one of seven former students of Hasia R. Diner. Kohn cited Hasia’s mentorship as instrumental for her own scholarship into the lives of Jewish college students who joined America’s Greek system. Using Hasia’s model of mentorship, Shira helps Dalton students hone their historical skill sets and pursue topics of interest in their research papers, independent studies, or currently, the History Capstone course.
