Second Grade Sings and Shares the Celebratory Spirit of Parrandas
Second Graders dived into Puerto Rican Parrandas, embracing the lively tradition filled with music, food, and community gatherings during the holiday season with Maestra Nivia. Parrandas are festive social events rooted in Puerto Rican culture. Featuring traditional music and cuisine, these lively gatherings extend into the late night and early morning, as friends and family visit homes - singing, sharing food, and spreading cheer.
The students crafted maracas using Easter eggs, rice, and spoons and created vibrant posters depicting the essence of Parrandas and their significance in celebration. Eager to share their newfound understanding, these young enthusiasts brought the spirit of Parrandas to the community. Visiting Houses in the First Program, they sang and celebrated, sharing the vibrant Puerto Rican tradition with everyone they met. In their journey through Parrandas, these students not only learned but became ambassadors of joy, sharing the essence of this cherished Puerto Rican tradition with the wider community.
