High School’s BLTeam Partners Up with 7th Graders to Support Neighborhood Community Fridges
In a cross-divisional service learning collaboration, the High School BLTeam brought their mission to reduce food insecurity to 7th Graders. By supporting food banks, soup kitchens, and community fridges, BLTeam helps to lower food insecurity in NYC, learns about the growing unhoused population, and explores new ways to reduce food waste at Dalton. Dalton parent Allison Witty shared information about the neighborhood’s community fridges and how students can get involved, 7th Graders, Grade 7 House Advisors, and the BLTeam HS students made over 100 sandwiches to donate to The Holmes Towers Community Fridge on 92nd Street. Led by Will Foley '24, Jamie Lennon '24, and William Shepardson '24, BLTeam and 7th Graders then reflected together on their service learning experiences and next steps to address food insecurity in their communities.
