Girls Track & Field Team Wins Third Straight NYSAIS Championship, Boys Team Achieves Its Best Finish Since 2019

The Dalton Girls Track and Field team secured its third consecutive NYSAIS championship, capping off a stellar season with remarkable performances on both the track and the field. The team previously had clinched their third straight Ivy League title just last week.
Dani Jefferson ‘24 led Dalton with a victory in the 400-meter dash, a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash, and ran in the champion 4x100 relay team alongside Greta Frischling ‘25, Sasha Galbraith ‘24, and Nyla Blake-Soden ‘25. Nyla Blake-Soden also excelled, finishing second in the 100-meter hurdles and third in both the triple jump and the 100-meter dash.

Athena Drallios ‘27 started the day strong with a second-place finish in the steeplechase, shattering her own school record by 17 seconds. Annika Jha ‘24 followed closely behind, recording the second-fastest time in school history.

In the pole vault, Tory Mogelof ‘26, Julia Hale ‘27, and Isabel Allen ‘27 swept the podium with second, third, and fourth place finishes, respectively. Maggie Bassey ‘26 secured second place in the triple jump and fourth in the long jump. Joie Christie-Ward ‘28 and Sarah Thomas ‘24 finished fourth and fifth in the 100-meter hurdles, respectively, and later teamed up with Athena Drallios ‘27 and Dani Jefferson to earn bronze in the 4x400 relay. The 4x800 relay team, composed of Adelaide Bae ‘27, Athena Drallios, Annika Jha, and Naomi Gomel ‘24, clinched third place to round out the medalists.

The Boys Track and Field team achieved its best finish since 2019, placing fifth overall and narrowly missing fourth place by just half a point.

Kannon Hunter ‘26 finished second-place in the high jump, while Liam Gaspar ‘26 also secured second place in the pole vault. Rohan Shah ‘25 followed closely behind, finishing two spots below Gaspar.

Xavier Henderson ‘24 had an impressive day, placing in the 110 and 400 hurdles, as well as the triple jump and the long jump. Mathias Osback ‘26 earned third place in the shot put, while Zach Berg ‘24 finished fourth in the 110 hurdles, just ahead of Henderson. The 4x800 relay team, consisting of Sam Shapiro ‘26, Gabe Ponichter ‘26, Holden MacDougall ‘26, and Nick Freund ‘24, placed third, coming within a second of the school record.
