Last month, Dalton’s Model Congress team, led by heads Aminata Diallo ‘25, Alex Kim ‘25, and Gavin Aurelus ‘25, hosted another successful Interschool Novice Model Congress conference at Dalton. About 250 students from twelve schools in NYC attended the conference, with novices across schools trying the activity for the first time.
The conference’s keynote speaker, Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine, spoke to students about his experience as the borough president, his career in politics in NYC, and gave advice to students interested in careers in civil service. Before entering politics, Mark Levine was a public school teacher and founded Neighborhood Trust, a nonprofit helping low-income New Yorkers with financial services. He later represented District 7 on the New York City Council since 2014 and has been the Manhattan Borough President since 2022.
Committees chaired by Dalton upperclassmen included Judiciary, Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works topics, and more. Over five hours of small committees and one hour of full session, debaters covered issues spanning from no-first-use military policies to prison reform to education funding, and were far more timely and productive than the U.S. Congress!
The team has an exciting year of the activity ahead as the #1 ranked team in the country. Congratulations to Dalton Model Congress!
