Bard Professor Roger Berkowitz Visits "The West and the Rest" to Discuss the Banality of Evil

In the High School intellectual history elective, “The West and the Rest,” students participated in a workshop with Professor Roger Berkowitz on Hannah Arendt’s 1963 book “Eichmann in Jerusalem: A Report on the Banality of Evil”.
The discussion focused mainly on the chapter “The Duties of a Law-Abiding Citizen” and “The Epilogue.”

Professor Berkowitz’s work focuses on political theory, philosophy, and legal thought. He is recognized as a leading scholar on the political thought of Hannah Arendt. In 2006, he founded the Hannah Arendt Center for Politics and Humanities at Bard College, where he serves as the Academic Director and is a Professor of Politics, Philosophy, and Human Rights. Since 2012, he has hosted the podcast “Reading Hannah Arendt” with Roger Berkowitz, a weekly virtual reading group featuring close readings of Arendt's work, alongside interviews and discussions on the ongoing relevance of her political philosophy.
