Dalton’s Future Problem Solving Teams Represent New York State at the World Finals
Dalton’s middle division and senior division Future Problem Solving (FPS) teams joined over 1,450 student problem solvers from 11 countries around the world (with 262 schools represented) in Bloomington, Indiana, in June for the FPS International Competition.
Dalton students had the honor of representing New York state at the world finals and had some strong showings. Our middle division team consisted of ninth graders Saira Kapoor, Ella Kirschner, and Kate Korngold, and our senior division team was composed of tenth graders Becca Chung, Jonathan Nallengara, and Evie Winckler. Congratulations to all of this year’s FPS competitors and club members for all the hard work they poured into this year.
All students who participated in the competition applied the six-step problem-solving method to a future scenario, navigating challenges related to The Future of History, and wrote an action plan to address the issues relevant to their specific scenario. Their written work was evaluated and scored by the FPS international judge panel.
After completing extensive research on their topic, Future Problem Solvers follow a six-step approach to problem-solving:
Identify Challenges Related to the Topic or Future Scene
Select an Underlying Problem
Produce Solution Ideas to Address the Underlying Problem
Generate and Select Criteria to Evaluate Solution Ideas
Evaluate Solution Ideas to Determine the Better Action Plan
Develop an Action Plan
