4th Graders Explore Immigration in the Teaching Kitchen

As 4th graders learn about the many reasons early immigrants made their way to the United States, they’re discovering that more than just people migrated: so did their traditions, their culture, and, with that, their food.
Throughout the year, fourth graders visit the Dalton Teaching Kitchen to learn about, prepare, and enjoy culinary creations from around the world. Under the knowledgeable eye of Chef Jaz, 4th graders have made blinis, traditional Russian pancakes, cheesy Irish potatoes, black eyed peas, and vegetarian fried rice. Last week, 4th graders in Goldstein and Quezada Houses visited the Teaching Kitchen to make pasta and red sauce as they learn about Italian immigration. Through the process, they also learned about knife safety and kitchen etiquette. There's no better way to celebrate the culmination of a Social Studies Assignment than by tasting culture and history itself. Click here to view the photo gallery.
