4th Grade Welcomes Visitors from the Innocence Project

As part of their ongoing study of From the Desk of Zoe Washington by Janae Marks, 4th grade students have been exploring themes of fairness, assumptions, and the complexities of the criminal justice system.
Class discussions have allowed students to ask thoughtful questions and deepen their understanding of these ideas.

To extend this learning, Dalton welcomed representatives from the Innocence Project, an organization dedicated to “freeing the innocent, preventing wrongful convictions, and creating fair, compassionate, and equitable systems of justice for everyone.” State Policy Advocate Bay Scoggin shared age-appropriate information about racial bias, wrongful convictions, the Innocence Project’s work, and efforts to reduce injustices within the system.

In early January, students will hear from John Huffington, who will share his personal experience of being wrongfully incarcerated and later exonerated.
