Dalton Model Congress Excels at Harvard Conferences in San Francisco and Boston
This past January and February, Dalton’s Model Congress team, led by team heads Sophie Saxl ‘26, Lauren Nam ‘26, Simon Smith ‘26, and faculty advisor Christine Payne, attended conferences in both San Francisco and Boston hosted by Harvard Model Congress.
During both conferences, delegates debated and drafted legislation from the perspective of an assigned member of Congress in committees ranging from Foreign Affairs to Judiciary to Energy and Commerce. Within committees, delegates discussed a variety of pre-researched topics, from protecting voting rights in the Oversight and Government Reform committee, to hydraulic fracturing in Environment and Public Works. Delegates in special committees participated in simulations of groups such as the Presidential Cabinet, FBI, UNSC, and others.
The team spent free time in San Francisco exploring the city, eating at In-N-Out, seeing the Golden Gate Bridge from across San Francisco Bay, and ice skating at Union Square. In Boston, the team participated in an Easter egg hunt throughout the Prudential Center, dressed up as Minions, and celebrated the final overnight conference of the year as seniors shared their favorite memories on the team.
Across the two conferences, the team earned a total of 42 awards, 22 of which were ‘Best Delegate’ awards, recognizing team members for their exemplary preparation and performance.
Dalton Model Congress looks forward to hosting its annual conference on April 18, which will feature students from schools all across NYC!
