In late February, the Dalton Middle School Model UN team competed in their first Model UN Conference at the Ethical Culture Fieldston School in Riverdale.
30 seventh and eighth grade students navigated their roles in seven different crisis committees, including the United Nations Space Agency, the 2008 Financial Crisis, the 1939 League of Nations, and Stranger Things: Regulation of Interdimensional Portals.
The students had researched their individual positions in advance, practiced their public speaking skills, and went with an investment in mediation and negotiation.
The team was tremendous. Eleven awards were won, including three gavels for best delegate in their respective committees. The team celebrated each other and will undoubtedly continue to learn and grow in the conferences to come.
