Our second graders recently embarked on an exciting journey into la ciudad, learning how to navigate and explore it — all in Español!
Through this dynamic unit, students built vocabulary and confidence as they practiced how to move around the city and locate important places like el restaurante, el hospital, la escuela, los museos, ¡y mucho más!
Students worked in groups to design and create their very own city maps. Each map was filled with colorful landmarks, creative details, and thoughtfully placed locations that reflected both their imagination and their growing Spanish skills.
To bring their work to life, we invited first and third graders to join us for a special interactive experience. Our second graders proudly guided their visitors on fun “tours” of their maps — entirely in Spanish! Guests were also invited to participate in a scavenger hunt to find different places designed by our young artists.
The excitement didn’t stop there! Third graders especially enjoyed a special surprise: hidden petroglyphs tucked into the maps. This playful element helped them reconnect with what they had learned in second grade, making the experience both meaningful and memorable.
This joyful collaboration across grade levels offered students an authentic opportunity to practice Spanish, build community, and celebrate their learning together. Click here to view the photo/video gallery.
