On Thursday, January 28th, illustrator and author, David Macaulay returned to the First Program for a special session to teach second graders how to sketch their city blocks. Dalton's Original Minds Scholar worked up front with his sketchbook and an Elmo (a document camera) so that students could actually watch him draw on the spot. They brought their sketchbooks and a pencil and were able to draw along with him. David inspired students to not only draw buildings and stores above ground, but also to examine foundations, plumbing and electrical systems underground. As he spoke to us, he kept on drawing and so did everyone else! You’ll find a video of this exciting experience here.
