Alex Iriza ’10: Alex and about 30 Dalton students competed in national linguistics competition. Of the 1,500 or so students who competed in this contest, Alex finished sixth and will be going to Sweden in July to compete with the top students from each country. Alex also received a plaque for being the top AMC scorer in NY State. AMC is the biggest national math contest sponsored by the Mathematical Association of America.
Jake Davidson ’10: Jake and Professor Goldfarb from Adelphi began developing cognition software last year specifically to test memory recall for a geriatric cohort. The purpose of this project was to computerize this test in a portable manner – making it run using only a web browser using text and audio samples with the option of the tester choosing the slower spoken audio samples. Last month, the results were presented at a conference in Saratoga.
Anne Madoff ’11 and Cara Borenstein ’11: Anne and Cara researched and wrote a paper for submission to the Women in Computing conference in September. This conference is the preeminent location for networking and research between industry and academia. The nature of the research is child development and computing.
Thomas Reeves '12: Thomas has won the high school division of the MENC Composition competition with his piece "Quirm" (flute, clarinet, piano). He also won the prestigious Morton Gould Young Composers Award.
