Dalton Robotics Teams Qualify and Win Awards at FLL Competition

Jim Zulakis on behalf of Rob Quatrone
Congratulations to the Dalton Middle School Robotics teams who competed on Sunday in the FLL (FIRST LEGO League) Manhattan Qualifying Tournament. With awards in Robot Performance (1st and 4th), Technical Design (1st), and the most prestigious of all, the Champion's Award, the Dalton teams' hard work this season was truly acknowledged.

Students from 5-8th grade began work on the FLL challenge in September, learning engineering principles, and for many, getting an introduction to programming and rigorous mechanical design.  All three teams qualified for the March NYC Championship at the Javits Center where they will be joined by the Dalton High School Robotics Team.  Teams were assisted by a dedicated group of  coaches and mentors which included teachers, parents, high school students, medical experts, and engineers.

This is Dalton's second year participating in FLL, a fast-growing educational program run by the international robotics organization, FIRST.  The Manhattan event included almost 50 robotics teams and was coordinated by volunteer student engineers (LAESA-SHPE) from CCNY.  For more information on the Dalton Robotics programs, please contact Rob Quatrone (rquatrone@dalton.org.)
