House 15’s Winter Publishing Party

As real scientists, we have been doing research about winter—Studying winter books in our classroom and then watching three video clips about animals in the winter and hibernation. Each scientist had a clipboard and paper to take notes or draw pictures of what he or she learned.
Many of us did not know that whales migrate in the winter and that geese put on weight in the summer and fall to help keep them full in the winter. We also watched some bears find places to hibernate, sometimes climbing steep canyons to find the perfect spot. Everyone was intrigued as they watched the bears use their claws to hold on to the steep rocks.  After watching the videos the children had lots more to write about and were eager to share their work. For a special cooking project, we all made Bear Claws. As a class, we decided it would be nice to share our winter findings with the rest of the kindergarten so we worked hard on figuring out a way to present our work to the rest of the kindergarten.  We decided to have a publishing party next Friday.  We will put all our work in custom-made (by the kids of course) wintery file holders and then present it to the rest of the grade. We can’t wait!
