Dalton Places 2nd in NYC Regional Science Olympiad
Story by Dr. Jennifer Hackett ~ Well-deserved congratulations to the Science Olympiad team on their outstanding performance at the New York City Regional competition on Saturday, February 2, 2013. Dalton's Team A placed 2nd out of 48 teams, ahead of all other independent schools, and advanced to the State Tournament.
This is a significant improvement over last year's 4th place finish and perhaps the best placement in Dalton history. This year's team was not only serious about their work, but also became particularly cohesive as a team.
Scores in the top 18 of 24 events counted and of these, Dalton placed in the top 10 in 17 of the 18. In addition, 9 of these were top 3 placements. Dalton teams B and C placed in the top 10 in an additional 3 events. Special thanks go to Mr. Forster for supervising the engineering events, to Mr. Forster, Mr. Campbell, Mr. Condie, Mr. Francischelli, and Mr. Ramsey for chaperoning and judging events, and also to all of the Science Department, Computer Science Department, Theater Department (Mr. Brune) and Art Department (Mr. Meredith) faculty for their mentoring of the students.
