The Community Show With House 34

How is a talk show produced? Just ask the students in House 34.

The students and their teachers produced an amazing talk show! Professionally-clad hosts were truly the talk of the school, as all of their guests were incredibly impressed with their poise, articulation and preparation. Not only did the students put on amazing performances as hosts, but they also participated as engaged members of the studio audience, show-runners and cue-card holders. Some even assisted our professional videographer (Dalton Communications Director Jim Zulakis) in providing the official count-down to our on air-talent!

Enjoy the show! APPLAUSE to all.
Lessons prior to the broadcast were engaging, fun, and real.

The budding talk-show hosts and journalists wrote paragraphs to introduce their guests. The students learned the proper elements and structure of a paragraph. They worked with their partners to synthesize their research about the Dalton community member they had been studying into a well-written paragraph. In order to understand how talk show hosts introduce their guests, both in terms of words and gestures, the students watched a clip of Barbara Walters introducing the Obamas on The View. The students  copied their paragraphs onto chart paper, which was used as their cue cards…since professional hosts don’t read off of a paper. The show received such great ratings, it should continue next season!
