Dalton Girls Bring Home Seventh National Chess Championship of the Year
Dalton won yet another national championship in chess last month in Chicago at the National All Girls Chess Championship. The distinguished team of seven girls (four of whom are shown here with Garry Kasparov, perhaps the world's most famous living chess grand master) and their parents, traveled to Chicago April 26-28 to compete. The event was sponsored by the Kasparov Chess Foundation.
By Sunday evening, the girls had won the battle against the best in the country to win the coveted Girls Under 8 Championship. The last round was a real nail-biter, with one of the team matched against the strongest player from the team with which Dalton was tied. Whichever girl won that game gave their team the title. Our courageous little Dalton Tiger prevailed, so the top trophy now sits on a sill in the lobby of 51 East 91st Street. 8 and Under Girls team:
