This fall, athletics season was chock full of triumphs and successes and most importantly Dalton Tiger spirit.
The girls and boys varsity soccer teams returned in August with noticeable holes in their lineups. However, both teams played hard and were competitive throughout the season. The boys Varsity soccer team swept Collegiate and had an impressive win over Trinity at Homecoming. They finished with three ties against talented Horace Mann, Fieldston and Riverdale teams. The girls Varsity soccer team started the season strong and looked to be competitive in the league. Highlights include a win over last years NYSAIS champion Horace Mann at their homecoming, a tie against this years Ivy League champion Hackley and a tough-fought 2-0 victory over Trinity under the lights on Randall’s Island.
The Varsity Football team posted one of their best records ever, going undefeated in the league by winning all five conferences games. The team's redesigned shotgun offense moved the ball effectively every game and at times seemed unstoppable. A huge highlight for the team was defeating Horace Mann 14-7 in a thrilling homecoming victory!
While football and soccer was out on Randall’s Island, the Cross Country team took to the hills of Van Cortlandt Park. The team had a fantastic season led by a talented senior class. The girls’ team was young this year, but continued with each meet and practice to improve individually and as a team. The boys’ team recorded a third place finish at the Mayors Cup, the best in school history. The boys’ team was led by senior Henry Woods who won the Mayors Cup meet and looks forwarding to representing Dalton in the NYS Federation race, only the second time in Dalton history.
While cross-country was successful on the hills, the tennis and volleyball teams were tallying wins on their respective courts. Girls Tennis finished the season with an impressive 7-5 record and was third place in a very competitive Ivy League. The leadership of the three senior captains led to the success of the team. The Volleyball team started the season slow but hit their stride at just the right time. They qualified for the NYSAIS tournament for the first time in 8 years, a major accomplishment for the program. Highlights included sweeping Poly Prep and defeating Horace Mann in a must win game. The Tigers defeated Calhoun in the first round of the NYSAIS tournament and lost to eventual NYSAIS champion Spence.
All the fall teams had great seasons and were fun to watch. As the fall season has ended, we now look forward to a winter season filled with the same success.
