Sheila Lamb, First Program’s Former Artist in Residence and Art Teacher, Returns to FP

House 46ers have completed a team-based activity, The New People Project.  It began with a visit by Sheila Lamb, the First Program’s former Artist in Residence and art teacher.  Sheila shared a Native American myth about the creation of people. Then, she asked the children to consider how they might redesign the human form. This project provided House 46ers with an opportunity to practice the elements of successful teamwork: respectful speech, careful listening, cooperation and compromise.

Using Cray-pas, House 46ers designed their own “new person.”  Next, they worked in small groups to plan a new person, drawing upon and melding their individual ideas, as well as coming up with new ones.  The group needed a rationale for their design choices.  Each group also chose a name for their person.  After planning, the children worked together to execute the design, bringing their New Person to life by drawing and painting their person on a 5-foot piece of paper. The New People will take up residence in the meeting area of House 46.
