Dalton Celebrates the Lunar New Year - Year of the Horse
Around 100 students, family members, and faculty gathered at the Big Dalton cafeteria on Tuesday, February 4, 2014, as the the Dalton community welcomed the Year of Horse with a fun-filled Lunar New Year celebration. The event was hosted by the Dalton Confucius Classroom and Mandarin program.
Everyone enjoyed an evening of delicious Chinese food, performance and activities. The evening's program started with a brief welcome by Associate Head of School Jim Best. In a wonderful student talen show 5th graders rocked the house with their solo violin performances of “Joy of Spring”, a traditional Chinese music piece, and a vibrant Chinese Yo-yo performance and workshop. Then the Chinese Theatre Works presented a stunning traditional shadow puppet show, “Tiger Tales”, which was enjoyed by adults and children alike.
The evening ended with a variety of activities including Chinese calligraphy, chopsticks skill competition, pin the tail on the horse, Chinese hacky sack, and other fun games. Children who attended the event also went home with goodie bags filled with Chinese-themed gifts. It was a night of culture learning, friendship, and fun.
