Composer Gregory Spears to Write a New Piece for the Dalton HS Orchestra
Gregory Spears is the next composer commissioned to pen a new work for the The Dalton High School Orchestra this spring. Spears has won multiple honors from BMI and ASCAP in addition to grants and honors from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the American Composers Forum, the Fulbright Foundation, and the Vagn Holmboe Competition, in addition to many accolades in the press. The premier will be performed on May 22, 2014 at 7:00 PM, in the Martin Theater, as part of the Spring Concert featuring the High School Orchestra, Chorus and Percussion Ensemble.
Dalton's long tradition of composer commissions, an exciting program which invites outstanding contemporary composers to share new works with Dalton musicians, was revived last spring with the orchestra's premier of "Sky's Edge," by Eric Nathan. Mr. Nathan's work has since been commissioned by the New York Philharmonic.
Previous Dalton commissions have included composers Henry Cowell, Robert Starer, Wallingford Reigger, and Stephen Paulus.
