Athletics Winter Preview - LETS GO TIGERS!

The winter athletic season has kicked off with a great start for our High School winter teams. Assistant Athletics Director and Athletics Coach Mandy Cecil provides this overview of Dalton's teams and promising Winter Season...
The varsity swimming team has begun the season more determined and focused than ever.  After a successful season last winter, they are determined to prove how good they can be.  Between individual work and focus on the "smaller things" they see times improve.  The team opened the season with an impressive showing at the Fieldston Relays and looks to build on their performances.

While some athletes choose to spend time working in the pool, others are out on the mats. The varsity wrestling team kicked off the season with two impressive wins on back to back days.  They are looking for leadership from their returning upperclassman.  The team finished last winter earning many accolades and hope to continue to build on that success.  They are hoping to defeat many league rivals as well as proving their strength in the tournaments throughout the season.

We move from the mats to the courts where there is a lot of excitement since Dalton fielded a Junior Varsity and Varsity team for the first time.  The talent of many players combined with the athleticism of others should provide for a great season.  The team is focused and determined to improve, continuing to challenge each other in practices.  It should be an impressive season for the squash team.

From one court to another the success continues. The Boys and Girls Junior Varsity and Varsity teams got ready with a couple of scrimmages that proved to help in all four teams winning their regular season openers.  The Boys and Girls Junior Varsity teams had record numbers come out for tryouts providing some good competition in the gyms.  The teams look to continue their success as well as improve individual skills and team unity.

The Boys Varsity team is looking to their returning members to mentor their new teammates and create a great camaraderie on the team.  The success in their home opener proves they are beginning to mesh well.  Each player contributed to the teams success and will continue to by pushing each other in practices and encouraging each other in games.  They are looking to continue to mesh this season and work off each other strengths to gain success.

The Girls Varsity team returned all but one player from last season and added a talented three players.  They continue to work on making each other better in practice to improve as a team.  The team won their first two games in impressive fashion and looks to continue to build on these wins while continuing to improve.

The winter has a promising outlook for all the Dalton Tigers teams.  Athletes are looking to improve their skills while also improving as a team.  Check out the schedules on the Dalton website so you can remain up to date on how the teams are doing as well as find time to come and check out the teams in contests.
