Emily Fisch Sang and Signed "The Dream of Martin Luther King" at House 91

While a student at Georgetown Day School in Washington, DC from Kindergarten through twelfth grade, I was encouraged to celebrate the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., and reflect on the impact of his life and of his work. I remember considering his fight for voting rights, for desegregation of schools, for peaceful interaction in resolving conflicts, and for world peace as the hallmark of a just civilization.

Dr. King asked, "I know you are asking today, 'How long will it take? Not long because our generation will not make room in our lives for prejudice. How long. NOT LONG.' " This quote inspired me to share this song in American Sign Language with the Dalton Community.
