Parents Attend “Beyond Diversity” Training

This past weekend, nearly 80 parents and facilitators gathered in the 87th Street gym for two days of Beyond Diversity Training inspired by Courageous Conversations About Race. Glenn Singleton of Pacific Educational Group, who authored the book, trained parents in this intensive course that illustrates how race matters in our society. With Glenn’s guidance and training of Dalton administrators, trustees, students and now parents, Dalton is now well on its way to pushing forward to enable deeper conversations about race and achieve real equity for students and families of color.
The two-day training was eye opening for many and there were several positive comments from attendees across the racial spectrum:

“The training was both engaging and challenging; it brought our community into an authentic dialogue around the issue of race. We hope for every Dalton parent will have this opportunity!”

“I thought it was a pretty amazing experience.  There were many deep conversations and moving speeches, and I got the sense everyone else also valued their experience deeply.  I think everyone feels better equipped to take on conversations on race."

"This is such an important issue.  I am committed to making not just Dalton but the world outside our safe bubble a better and more equitable place for everyone."

"I though I had race covered. I was surprised to actually learn something here."

"We have made progress and taken a giant leap instead of a few baby steps."

"Today we moved ten years ahead."

Finally, one energetic parent quipped, "We need one more day of training."
